Mata Media Foundation is a dynamic organization dedicated to strengthening women journalists from Northern Nigeria and strengthening their role in shaping inclusive and impactful media narratives. We believe that when women are supported, skilled, and given equal opportunities, they become powerful voices for truth, accountability, and social change.
Our work focuses on building the capacity of female journalists through targeted training, mentorship, and innovative programs tailored to the unique realities of Northern Nigeria. From solutions journalism and digital skills to mental health awareness, ethical reporting, and AI literacy, we equip women with the tools they need to thrive in an evolving and technology-driven media landscape.
Mata Media Foundation is complemented by its sister organisation, Mata Media Organisation — a female-only Hausa newsroom and the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria. The organisation is dedicated to producing women-centric stories that amplify underreported voices, highlight gender issues, and reshape narratives through the lens of women’s experiences.
Together, both entities work to not only build capacity but also create platforms where women journalists can actively practice, publish, and lead in the media space.
